Date: September 5, 2009

The short course on 5 September 2009 is a whole day program. It will focus on basics, fundamental theories, important applications of tomographic reconstruction methods. Latested new reconstruction methods will also be introduced and explained thoroughly. Both analytical and iterative reconstruction methods will be covered with great detail and deep discussion in this course. This would be a great opptunity for young researchers in this field to build up systematic background knowledge as well as meet the latest developement and achievements in this field. It is also a good platform for people to form a comprehensive view of the researches going in this field.The course includes refreshments, lecture notes, and lunch.

Invited lectuers: Frédéric Noo, Michel Defrise, Jinyi Qi

Frédéric Noo, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in Utah Center for Advanced Imaging Research in the Department of Radiology at the University of Utah. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in Applied Sciences from the University of Liège, Belgium. He came to the University of Utah and joined the faculty in the Department of Radiology. His major research interests are in SPECT, PET and CT image reconstruction, for both analytical and iterative algorithm development.

Michel Defrise, Ph.D., is a Researcher in the Department of Nuclear Medicine at Vrije University of Brussels (VUB), Belgium. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in theoretical physics from the University of Brussels, and was a visiting professor in the Department of Radiology of the University of Geneva. His major research interests are in SPECT, PET and CT image reconstruction, for both analytical and iterative algorithm development.

Jinyi Qi, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of California, Davis, and is also a Faculty Scientist in the Department of Functional Imaging at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Southern California. His major research interests are in statistical image reconstruction, medical image processing, image quality evaluation, and imaging system optimization.
